Security Forgotten at 1&1

This is a story about me purchasing a domain and asking the help from the domain name provider. Company is 1&1 Internet. WTF is wrong with this company, they have no sense of security being in an industry where they really need you to be worried about the security.

Just read from the bottom and you can comment of course 🙂

Some information is masked for security reasons.

Don’t need any help. I have used a free hosting service and used their DNS to do this. I didn’t have to call them and give my password to verify.

Dear Venura Athukorala, (Customer ID: xxxxxxx)

Thank you for contacting us.

Asking the password on the phone is for security and verification purposes. We do not know your password in the first place and we can not just upload anything on your account without the consent of the account owner. Please do understand that we are just protecting our customers and we can assure you that any information you give us is between us 1&1 and you only to ensure the confidentiality of your account.

I had a terrible time talking your customer care.
Why are you asking me to call again and give my password over a phone call??

Thank you for contacting us.

You need to get the HTML verification code from Google as mentioned in the previous email. Once you have it you can send it via email and you need to call us through 1-866-991-2631, for us to verify the Account. We will be the one who will upload the HTML code.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Hi,

I’m trying to verify one of my domains with google and sent the traffic to google sites. <domain_name>.com Please let me know how I can do this.
I tried to use the “domain name provider” option, I can add the sub domain but I could not add the CNAME. Says too long. I have tried your support contact form also. But I’m not sure whether it got through. So I’m sending it again.

Thanks,
Venura
