YouTube introduced live streaming recently and it’s very refreshing to see the Sri Lankan TV channels have taken steps to make their live streams available through that. It is a bit disappointing to see that the Aussie TV channels have not gone to the same extent, of course there may be licensing issues in terms of showing the content over different channels. It may well be another battle the SL TV channels have to fight in another day!
But in the meantime, expats like me can watch them either on a Smart TV or on Chromecast or similar TV sticks.
I’m listing down the list of YouTube streams as well as non-YouTube streams for the benefit of expats like me and even for the locals.
- Derana TV
- Sirasa TV
- Siyatha TV
Other (If you are using chrome you can cast the tab on full screen to your Chromecast, as expected it is a bit slow)
- Hiru TV
- Buddhist TV
I will be updating the links as and when they are updated and when I come across new stuff.
Find below the embeds of the YouTube content for your convenience. You can directly send these to your Chromecast or the Smart TV.

When Facebook offered me to have the notifications turned on for the chrome browser it felt like a cool idea. I did really have fun with it.
But since my PC is shared with my wife things got very confusing when she turned on notifications for her Chrome user. I think it’s a bug in chrome where notification for the inactive users are also shown. When I click on the notification it actually opens a tab from the other chrome user and opens the other user’s Facebook account. This is confusing and also against the main rules of privacy. I guess not even I need to know what’s happening in my wife’s Facebook account.
So here’s the solution I Googled, which is a simple change of settings.
- Open the Google Chrome Settings page, at the top right > Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Show advanced settings.
- Under Privacy, click Content settings.
- Scroll down to Notifications.
- Select exceptions, there should be an entry for Facebook and it should say allowed. Change it to blocked (Don’t delete the entry. It will prompt the users again whether to have notifications).
- If you have more than one Chrome users you need to do this for each user.
Congratulations! you have no more harassment with Facebook notifications on Google Chrome!
Cricket itself has degraded the quality of matches due to various reasons and unfortunately India is in the forefront of that;
- Match Fixing
- Cheating and being biased
- Having roads as pitches where it’s not adding any value to cricket.
- Not behaving like gentlemen on and off the field.
- Of course the ill handling of online media and social media
Let’s look at the last point only and try to elaborate more on it and not go into argument about the others. I just watched the last moments of the Ind Vs Aus match accidentally and was shocked to see the scores people have got in the last match and also during the series. Inability to bowl in good pitches seems to have lead India to make the wickets become more and more closer to roads 🙂
But the funny part is these performances were praised by every website and social media related to them. So why is this happening… simple… they are again run by Indians. So… do you get the proper information/news when you access these sites? Absolutely No. But, unfortunately there are no proper alternatives to websites like cricinfo.
So biased that you can call cricinfo = cricindia …
So even if we spread the news around there will be no alternatives, not enough coverage of matches, no mobile apps (Android, iPhone, Mobile Web, Etc.).
But this is to wake everyone up and to get you thinking in the right direction so that there will be a buzz around. May be to promote a less quality but less biased alternative which has the potential to grow…
Google seems to be showing the birthday Doodle for anyone who has a birthday 🙂
Following image shows what I got on the 8th of Dec. Obviously they pull it from Google+, but nice!
I just want to see how it looks like when there is a doodle for a specific day and when your birthday also falls on the same date.
There has been another Doodle on the same day which is “Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson´s 180th Birthday“. Don’t know whether this was shown in our region.
me wishing me 🙂
I was just going through the Sri Lanka Travel Website and came across this promotional video which had been released recently.
This seems to be more inline with the vision of Sri Lankan Tourism and worth sharing. Please make sure you do the needful by sharing this video to the world. Be Proud, Be Sri Lankan.
